  • परिचय -राजा राम मोहन रॉय का जन्म 22 मई 1772 को बंगाल में हुआ था ।
  • उपाधि - मुगल सम्राट अकबर द्वितीय द्वारा राजा की उपाधि प्राप्त।
विचारधारा -
  • पश्चिमी आधुनिक विचार – यूरोप के उदारवाद, तर्कवाद और प्रगतिशील चिंतन से प्रभावित विचारधारा।
  • तर्कवाद एवं वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोण – अंधविश्वास के बजाय बुद्धि, तर्क और वैज्ञानिक प्रमाणों पर आधारित सोच।
  • एकेश्वरवाद – केवल एक ईश्वर में विश्वास; राममोहन राय ने बहुदेववाद और त्रित्ववाद का विरोध किया।
  • वेदांत एवं इस्लामी एकेश्वरवाद – उन्होंने इस्लाम के तौहीद सिद्धांत और वेदांत दोनों में ईश्वर की एकता का संदेश देखा।
 सुधार कार्य -
  • धार्मिक सुधार - तुहफत-उल-मुवाहिद्दीन ' (ईश्वरवादियों के लिए एक उपहार) जो 1803 में प्रकाशित, 1814-15 में आत्मीय सभा की स्थापना।
  •  समाज सुधार - सुधारवादी धार्मिक संघों की स्थापना तथा जाति व्यवस्था, छुआछूत, अंधविश्वास और नशीली दवाओं के उपयोग के विरुद्ध अभियान चलाया।
  • शैक्षिक सुधार - 1817 में हिंदू कॉलेज (डेविड हेयर के सहयोग से) और 1825 में, उन्होंने वेदांत कॉलेज की स्थापना की।
  • Introduction - Raja Ram Mohan Roy was born on 22 May 1772 in Bengal.
  • Title - Received the title of Raja from Mughal Emperor Akbar II.
 Ideology -
  • Western modern ideas – Ideology influenced by Europe’s liberalism, rationalism and progressive thinking.
  • Rationalism and scientific outlook – Thinking based on intellect, logic and scientific evidence instead of superstition.
  • Monotheism – Belief in only one God; Ram Mohan Roy opposed polytheism and Trinitarianism.
  • Vedanta and Islamic monotheism – He saw the message of the unity of God in both the Tawhid principle of Islam and Vedanta.
Reform works - 
  • Religious reform - Tuhfat-ul-Muwahhidin ‘A Gift to Monotheists’ published in 1803, establishment of Atmiya Sabha in 1814-15.
  • Social reform - Established reformist religious associations and campaigned against caste system, untouchability, superstition and use of narcotic drugs.
  • Educational reform - Hindu College in 1817 with the help of David Hare and in 1825, he established Vedanta College.
